Writing Software Product Review: SpeakQ

SpeakQ writing software is designed for learning disabled writers. No need to type, a writer can speak aloud and this writing software will recognize the spoken words and input the words for him or her. Also, the text can be read back to the writer, which may help him or her to quickly recognize awkward phrasing or errors in logic.

If the writer has spelled something incorrectly, this writing software will automatically correct the word spelling. There are also grammar checks that will explain errors to the writer, but this writing software then goes a step further to suggest better words or phrases. For example, if the writer has a phrase like “most funniest,” this writing software will indicate that this phrase is a double superlative and will suggest that the writer remove the word “most.”

This writing software is easy to use with any Windows program, and a wide variety of technical support for the learning disabled is available. The writer may contact someone for help via telephone, email or online. Additionally, the user manual has a step-by-step guide on how to run this writing software. The terms in the manual are very simple and basic, not loaded with confusing technical language and an extended glossary.

Unlike other leading writing software, SpeakQ does not help writers to identify wordy phrases, such as using “for the purpose of” instead of simply using “for.” Additionally, this writing software does not acknowledge instances of passive voice, such as when a phrase explains who the action is affecting, rather than using the verb to explain who is executing the action.

A learning disabled writer who needs help understanding and correcting spelling and grammar will find Speak Q writing software useful, but those writers looking for help writing with concision and in active voice should look for another product.
